How do you handle people using your email to sign up for services?

I have a less-but-not-uncommon name, and was able to secure an account with a popular email service with my name. But the experience has been abysmal. There are dozens of instances where different people have used my email address for dating services, banking, receipt of legal documents, the latest SaaS, and so on.

What would you do in this situation?

Whenever I can I take over the account (using the lost password process) then close or delete it. I figure that this is my email address so this is my account.

Banking is hard because they usually want at least last 4 of SSN and sometimes other identifying information. I've tried calling the fraud department and reporting a fake account creation but so far without success.

If I get an email that has a notice saying what to do if the email is misrouted (common with legal documents), I do a reply-all saying that it was sent to the wrong email address.
