I asked an Electronics engineer with a background in communication links. He told having a mobile phone connect to Starlink should be perfectly doable with the major caveat that it will only be for text messages as the data rate will be slow. As an example, the data rate of GPS satellites to any GPS receiver is only 50 bits per second. Connecting to a Starlink satellite will be faster than that and voice might de doable buts leads to other problems so it will most likely be just text messages. If it happens ... :)
However, there's no room for a Tesla Pi phone. Since iOS and android are 10-20 years ahead. It's impossible to compete against them, and even if tesla went with the android ecosystem they won't be able to compete with other Android manufacturers like Samsung in terms of price and quality. Not to mention there's no innovation left in smartphones that's why everyone is shifting to foldable phones where there's room for innovation.
Tesla will have no competing power in that segment, even Apple is at risk of being left behind. The only innovation in smartphones nowadays is in socs and Tesla has no experience in semiconductors let alone compete against the big sharks. So if Tesla can't make use of Starlink in their phones they will have nothing to offer, maybe they'll be able to make use of neural links but good luck in convincing people of putting chips in their heads except maybe people with disabilities.
The phone will have a 6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It will also have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 64GB or 128GB of storage, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera.
The phone will run Android 7.0 Nougat and feature a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. The company has not yet announced when it plans to release the phone to the public.
Tesla, the tech company that has revolutionized the electric car and rooftop solar panel industries, is rumored to be releasing a smartphone in 2020. The phone, known only as the "Model Pi," is said to be powered by artificial intelligence and will have several high-quality cameras for photos and video.
On Reddit, a user posted a photo of what they claimed was an official press release from Tesla CEO Elon Musk regarding the new phone. However, many users responded with skepticism. One user stated that there was no way the photo could be real because it was missing the signature "E" at the end of Musk's last name. Another user commented on how unusual it would be for a tech company like Tesla to release a phone instead of just developing a smartphone application for existing phones.
Another user pointed out that if you look closely at the photo, you can see that it says "April Fools" in small print at the bottom left corner. So this might mean that people should not believe everything they read on social media sites like Reddit or Facebook!
Here are the facts: Musk tweeted a picture of the phone with specs (a certified shock-proof shell, fingerprint reader, and a 5-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution) and an email to sign up for updates on the product. That's it.
Not only has there been no announcement—besides the tweet—from Tesla, but there have also been no announcements from any of the suppliers they use. They're all denying they have any part in the production of this device. This is pretty standard practice when a product hasn't been officially announced, but most companies will tell their suppliers if they've signed an agreement—otherwise there would be no reason for them to be making parts.
So… what do you think? Is it a hoax? Or is something big coming our way?
