Has anyone found a job from the monthly Who's hiring on HN?

I'm just curious to know the effectiveness of this. I have got some sales emails after I shared my details on who wants to be hired. So wondering if anyone's got a job through these monthly HN posts ?

I hired two part time people from one of those threads. In my experience, they produce the highest quality candidates that traditional job listing sites.

Yeah I did once. Cmd+F "Toronto" saw that 500px had some nice offices downtown contacted them. I didn't really care to work with Ruby/Rails and Go was mildly interesting. Anyhow I did have a follow-up phone chat with the CTO who got me interested enough to come in, meet the Platform team, so I did the whiteboard and Redis/CRDT interview test which was pretty reasonable or representative of the type of work that would be done. I still wasn't entirely sure if I'd go for it, but my other pending placement had a hiring freeze so went with the startup and I was sure glad I did and got hooked on startups for the next long while.

I recently took a new job after posting to a "who wants to be hired". They had previously posted the position on "who's hiring" thread, but they did not list remote-only as a possibility. If they had, I would have applied sooner, but they probably did not want to offer that to just anyone.

If you have a unique set of skills that are in high demand, I recommend putting yourself out there. Be sure to use an anonymous forwarder that you can later disable, as I also received a fair amount of spam during the window between posting and getting hired.

Yes we have hired 3 people from our posts on Who is Hiring, and it’s been great.

Only downside is the companies that write in even though we are looking for individuals. Creates a lot of noise.

Nope. Unsurprisingly, no-one wants a 50 year old Infrastructure Architect despite my jack-of-all-trades skillset. :(

Going on 4 years at a company I found through HN Who Is Hiring.

I have! But from the "who wants to be hired thread"

I recently facilitated a hire off of a “who wants to be hired” listing. I’m a consulting engineer and showed a client a couple of ads I thought looked promising. The SWE we hired is excellent and the client saved a chunk of cash that would have otherwise gone to a recruiter.

I tried to explain to my client that even though anyone on the Internet could sign up for and use HN, there is in fact a fair amount of exclusivity just because you have to know about the site.

I had a few interviews, worked with some project-based, now working full-time with another, all from these HN threads. By far the best way I've ever tried!

Out of the last four jobs I’ve had, I found three of them via HN. With the exception of the non-HN job, each one has been better than the last!

I got my current job through an employee referring me from my Who Wants To Be Hired post ~3 years ago.

I search the job posts. I don't think full remote is a good fit for me right now. My geographic area gets very few posts, like just 1-3 per month (Philly area). So I haven't found anything I would be interested (or qualified) to do.

I got two of my last three jobs by replying to posts on the Who's Hiring posts. I've also sourced some great candidates through the posts as well.

Yes! I'm very grateful and thankful for the opportunity that I have got from HN.

I was nor I'm the best position in my life when the job offer came. The opportunity boosted my confidence really turned my life around.

Yes! One that allowed me to relocate at a time that I very much needed it.

Yes, I got a job at a startup that was a great fit for my interests and skill set, which I never would have found otherwise. The signal to noise ratio seems strong from both perspectives.

Two jobs. One in 2014 (at a YC startup), and the second last year.

👤 syndacks
Yes. I almost hired someone I met from “who wants to be hired”. Unfortunately they took another job which I imagine they got from the same post that attracted me.

👤 eyeownyde
I've gotten a job I found on who's hiring :+1:

I’ve never participated in the “Who wants to be hired” posts but I have found two jobs in the “Who’s hiring” posts, one of them being my current job.

Yes, I got long term contract roles from ASK HN Hiring thread. It is worth spending time to checkout quality posts and reaching out to them.

👤 eatonphil
Yep I have found a job there. And as a hiring manager I've gotten a ton of great candidates from it too.

👤 khaki54
I hired 2, both doing super well. Didn't hire 2 (one of which was one of the Peter Thiel dropouts)

👤 scalesolved
Yup, I found my current company (Sourcegraph) through a hiring thread!

👤 vidro3
Nope. Just wish the posts would remain in chronological order.

👤 wmeredith
I've gotten a couple interviews. No job though.

👤 shishy
Yes +1 from me been at the job 2 years.
