Why do parents still encourage their children to take piano lessons?


If parents depend on lengthy piano practice as a way to keep their children off the streets and out of trouble, why not encourage them to program computer games at home instead?

Oh.. it's not to keep them off the streets or out of trouble. Gods that is a horrible reason to make kids take piano.

My kids didn't take Piano, they took ukulele lessons. Same reasoning I suspect though. Many people wish they took music lessons as adults, and as a parent I want to help my kid avoid that.

Another reason... Music helps with creativity and maths. It also teaches perseverance and discipline.

Finally. It's fun. I took lessons too, and now we all play.
