Is Twitter now demanding registration to view a tweet?
It keeps happening all day today, I thought they'd forbade any product changes?

This is a well-documented A/B test they've been doing for some time now - you can find enough complaints about it littering HN comment threads.

If you’re on mobile and can’t block it, a trick I’ve discovered is: click “log in”, then the X in the top left. The overlay goes away and doesn’t come back for that session.
I've gotten it for God knows how long, maybe they do a/b tests or twitter things I'm a bot/spammer/scraper but it's hardly anything new.
It's not new. It's an old piece of functionality.
It's been that way for a long time, IME.
