How do you become an Engineering Director / CTO in a big enough company?
Given that the career growth is almost never transparent and is usually very complicated within any big/profitable enough hi-tech software company, and at the same time any L8+ vacancy you see requires experience of the same level — how does one become a director of engineering these days?
Good, well-maintained connections with long built-up trust in each other. Then experience doesn't even matter.
