What are some truly innovative ways people have tried to fight fake news

My plan is to fight fake with truth. I want to create a timeline-based web explorer that collects evidence and testimony from people who saw it happen with their own eyes/cameras and are willing to sign their name under it (not open for all to see, but the team would verify it). Initially w.r.t. Ukraine, later other large world events.

Unrestricted speech is pretty good. People can listen to arguments and then make up their minds. Heck, even ask questions without the person rehearsing their answer in a committee before hand. Seems to work everywhere its tried. The trouble is that people might not make the "right" decisions for people who matter.
