How to create a command palette on a website like this?

I came across this website with a status bar at the bottom. You can invoke it using ^+J and write your commands in it. I thought this is pretty cool and more websites should provide a pseudo-terminal interface for more advanced users. But I don't know how to do that. Interesting idea, I would use it on feature rich sites, instead of creating 50 different buttons and screens, just running terminal commands.
