Why did Android succeed where as others(barring iOS) failed?

1. It was early.

2. Google services.

3. Google support for telecom partnerships.

4. Java which at the time was rather popular cross platfrom technology.

5. Opened platform with few restrictions to publishing and easy to install apps.

Being early enough in the market to have only iOS as a competitor and having big daddy google behind it.
