When did you tell employer leaving (vesting cliff)?

I have a one year cliff coming up soon. I want to leave the company ASAP. I like the people here and want to leave on good terms, so I want to give them plenty of advance notice I'm leaving. Is there any risk to telling them before the vesting date?
