Problem is more geopolitics, not economic. EU and US were hoping that Russia can be buffer from China. Strong but democratic Russia would help the West to reduce dependency on China production and be strong military deference. This is the main reason why Germany was trying so hard to keep good relationships with Russia. Unfortunately, another North Korea would just stretch US military forces on two fronts, Eastern Europe and South China Sea. Good thing that Russia started war too early and China is not ready to start aggression on Taiwan. In addition, West already changed perception on Russia, and it's starting to mobilize.
