Was the C64 better than the Amiga because it was easier to program?

In particular, maybe it was easier for students learning programming on their own to make games?

I had a C64. Given my limited resources, it was better for me because I was able to afford it vs the Amiga. But it was way less functional than the Amiga.

First you need a point of comparison to be able to determine which was best.

As far as programming, the C64 wasn't really any easier to program. To get the most, think speed, of the C64 you had to use assembler but you could use C on the Amiga and have some great programs.

Better by what metric? Units sold? Influence on technologists? Maybe the C64 was cheap enough for parents to buy as an enhanced game console with education potential for their kids. But maybe in the US, PC clones beat out Amiga in the home computer space because parents couldn't justify the extra cost for superior gaming/multimedia multimedia functionality.

It was marketed at the time as having an unbelievably huge memory. 64K! : )

It was the right machine for the time in both cases.
