Communities for building and saving $$ when hosting web app

It is very hard to find information on how to host web app the right way , i mean i know i can just setup ec2 + some more services and i have web app . but i like to know the updated tips and tricks on how to save money , what is the right hosting , what are the trends , what new services comeup and where .
