In general it's a good idea to give some reasonable notice and it can even help you claim some respectability, again depending. If you might work with those coworkers again in the future it might also help them save face when deciding to work with you.
Some folks don't like it and would rather this be more info-transactional, like clicking "cancel account" but for now it's generally worth respecting where it applies.
There was one job where I just quit and walked out - management was garbage (like not even present during business hours on the average day when I quit). It doesn't look good to your next employer though.
I always thought it odd that a company will never give notice if you are going to be released but at the same time you are expected to give notice.
I once hired someone that had just walked out on his previous employer, he walked out on us too. At some point it becomes a pattern to look out for.
I once gave more than the standard - I gave a few months’ notice to a company that had been good to me as there was no internal backfill to my role and I was moving overseas so there was no impact to my plans.
