Why did they build pyramids? ( why?)
Why did the ancient Egyptians choose to build pyramids, of all things? (really, why?)
Ancient Egyptian art had a strong preference for simple geometric shapes. Following that aesthetic and you want to build a really huge monument, what other shape could it be?

They buried lots of valuable stuff with the dead. A massive pile of rocks seems like a disincentive to robbers. Evolved into pyramids.
