Do you consider moving into lower paying field?

I did it, don't do it.

I was a system administrator for 15 years, until the company outsourced the job.

I took a job making gears at 1/2 the pay, because I thought it would be interesting, rewarding, and my spouse made more than enough to pay the bills. Then she got sick, and had to quit. Then I got long covid.

Now I'm out of IT for far too long, and neither of us can work.

Don't give up a good income stream without considering that there is a fairly large chance that you might not be able to ever get it back.

I tried to. Even got an offer letter. The pay would have been lower than what I make now, but still been enough to live a comfortable existence. Which has been, and forever will be enough for me.

I was thrilled to be exiting tech to go do something different and interesting.

Offer got redacted due to what I'm only going to call for now "shenanigans" by my previous employer during the background check.
