It might stand out more in music like this, because, in the worldwide history of music, this sort of synth-pop-funk-disco-whatever was reasonably isolated to a few years. Compared to, I think similarities in, say, blues or baroque music doesn't stand out as much, even if in fact there might be a lot more in common between pieces.
