Projects vs. Products

Hi there! I was hoping to start a discussion and get some thoughts from others on how their teams currently work, as well as what they've seen work well (and not so well) in regards to long lived products vs taking a project based approach.

Some context on my own current position... I work at a large company as an engineering manager of a cloud engineering team. Think CCoE or platform. Most of our engineering org comes from on premise backgrounds

Well that submit button got in the way. Sorry for the premature post.

As I was saying, most of the org comes from the on prem world and the culture is to roll up your sleeves and just help. This is jarring to me coming from a very product centric background.

Any experiences, thoughts, comments, etc would be great to have as I worry that my unhappiness is due to some lack of experience or just different set of expectations. Do you ever really get over that?

I don't think I really understand what you're getting at. What I'm hearing is that the culture is different, but I'm not sure how that fits into product vs project.

It kinda sounds like you're saying that the work isn't organized. That people just jump in and tackle problems as they come up.
