Linux Workstation in Corporate Context

Does your organization permit Linux workstation?

Does it permit root access? How is remote management done (patching requirement, DNS enforcement)?

Two of my previous companies were working on Linux desktops for developers. Root wasn't allowed. I think the patches were pushed out using Redhat Satellite but wasn't involved with that side of things.

DNS configuration was setup during installation and wasn't editable by the user so wasn't an issue.

The main problem was MS suite of tools like Word, Outlook etc. We were using OpenOffice/LibreOffice but the experience wasn't too great. I suggested using Crossover (https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover/) but there was a lot of pushback on that. I think that was because MS refused to support any non-standard setup and folks were scared of potential issues (I use it on my home machine and it is usable for the most part. Few issues come up during upgrades etc but otherwise its fine)
