How to opt-out of a “web-3” future and anything crypto related

Is there a future here that doesn't involve either of these or is it so embedded in future projects that were destined to have to partake?

Technologies in the early phase of the hype cycle always look like they're going to be more pervasive than they really end up being. Crypto, blockchain, NFT, "web 3", etc. are definitely way overhyped. Bitcoin has been successful enough that there's now an entire industry of hypesters, founders, and VCs dedicated to making it seem like the next big thing that is going to take over the world and if you don't get on the bandwagon now you'll be left out in the cold forever. Maybe so, but more likely in a few years the hype will pass and it will take its place alongside other formerly-hyped tech as something that is useful for some applications and totally irrelevant to others.

What I worry about with crypto is this: at some point central banks will develop central bank digital currencies (CBDC). These will be nominally crypto-based, but without any of the anonymity or decentralization. What they will have is built-in mechanisms to 100% control how you spend your money, justified as a way to sanction and financially deplatform "domestic terrorists" (e.g. Trump supporters) and the like. When this comes, there will be a huge push to eliminate cash, and you will have the choice of going along with the authoritarian regime or living in a grey/black-market world (possibly by adopting one of the "true" cryptocurrencies, if the gov't hasn't found a way to ban them first).
