Do programmers avoid people since they can’t be programmed also?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: not all developers are introverts. Developers also have hobbies, some of them hike, others go to fitness, third like singing. The nature of the job is about contemplation of abstract systems, but in most cases doing it requires teamwork and good communication skills.

Most programmers I worked with where normal people with a wife or husband, children and pets. Some of us are rather good with people.

What hurts us are stupid stereotypes along the line of:

- we don’t get along with people - we can’t communicate well

If you think this way, and you are having problems with a programmers, it is more likely that you and your preconceptions are the problem. Don’t get me wrong, we have some odd people, but they are the minority (like in most other profession).
