What do you lack in AWS tooling?

In regard but not related to recent outages of the AWS infra, many people tell how awful their experience with AWS-specific tooling is. E.g., a lot of comments say that CloudFormation is a nightmare to work with, and when it comes to CFN templates - it's just a no go ("use terraform instead"). Maybe share your experience and suggest mitigations, if such exist?
