I see a lot of posts about developers favorite tech stacks. I can go on github and see the trending or most stars for top projects.
But if you wanted to do some side work for small business, what tech stack is most used?
No business ever had the requirement “We need 10,000 lines of Javascript” (or Rust, or anything). I think you misunderstand the difference between solutions and tools.
“Small business” is not a market for software and services, either. That term describes everything from coffee shops and restaurants to dry cleaners to lawyers to nail salons.
Small biz (in general) doesn't do fully custom code. They simply don't have the budget for it. But they do sales, so often have a CRM, and Salesforce is the leading CRM. When they need to start having some custom work, adding some new forms and workflows in Salesforce is often step 1. Adding custom code in Salesforce is step 2. And if they grow beyond that... they are no longer a small biz.
If you really want to work for small biz, you will be implementing other SaaS products, not writing new ones. And that is completely legit work, with plenty of opportunity. Just maybe not the type you were hoping for.
