Any problems with Gmail's recent redirection of URLs to Google Search?

So like others I've been using gmail for mails with a high spam risk such as registrations, etc. for a long time now, but gmail now modifies URLs in email to redirect to Google Search, the result being that those won't open anymore (maybe due to Search requiring agreement to new privacy disclaimers?). Is that a new thing, or in EU only? Doesn't disqualify this the usage of gmail for anything business?
