Discovering HN type sites for other interests

There have been some interesting articles that pop up here from time to time that are outside the technical focus. I often find them interesting and enlightening - especially some of the archaeological related ones.

That said, a non-tech person I sometimes send some of those articles to was asking me if I knew of or how to find sites that have some of the same traits - high quality submissions, an active audience - for other areas.

For instance - history, cooking, or plants might be very general areas. It seems like Reddit is a popular spot for such. But any thoughts on discovering high-content sites in other, non-tech, areas?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but you mention liking history. I find a lot of quality articles at History Today. [0] For science, I find Science Daily to be a good daily (ha) read. [1] Similarly, Quanta Magazine. [2]

Owing to the lack of an HN-type site in these areas (that I know of), I rely heavily on RSS feeds from all of those and kind of "roll my own" HN.

Like a Hackernews for $topic? I've always wanted to see that. Recently someone asked if there is a Hackernews for web3, which would be great! Most of the community here maintain a (healthy) skepticism of web3 and NFTs (many people concluding Ethereum/NFTs are a ponzicoin). With a dedicated forum just for web3, it would filter out all the skeptics and just focus on healthy unbiased discourse.

I'd be interested in a music composition site as such.
