Books for Learning Chemistry

I have procured a copy of "Inorganic Chemistry for Dummies" and a text book I found on Amazon: "Chemistry: The Central science." I'm just surprised that it is so difficult to find a plethora of technical books like you find in the technology field, for such an old and popular subject. The Dummies book is very bad. Does anyone have any recommendations for books covering theory and application?

Maybe try archive.org, under texts, and filter by year (include the last two decades). Also, depending on your area a Goodwill or two should occasionally have college textbooks for a few bucks.
