How to prevent “boil in bag”-laptop

Hi HN! Yesterday I had my second case of boil-in-bag-laptop in about a month.Besides draining my battery this can't be very good for the hardware.Any ideas (besides switching back to Linux) for how to make sure that:1. Windows turns off when the lid is closed2. Doesn't somehow start again after being put in the bag.

So, basically, you want the laptop to turn off and stay off, by just closing the lid.The reason this doesn't always happen, might be down to Windows Update I presume (or some other application preventing shut-down). Maybe, you can look into changing the configuration/behavior of Windows Update. If it's a "Home" edition, you might not be allowed to turn off automatic updates though...

See if you can switch the sleep mode in the BIOS to S3 or a Linux mode if it exists. Modern Standby seems to be the culprit for the boil-in-bag phenomenon.

Push the on/off button and check that the disk activity light is off.

Just hibernate the laptop and then remove the battery.
