Why does Google Search have Dark Mode only on desktop mode?

On an iPhone, there is no setting for Dark Mode. At least not without signing in.

But when I Request Desktop Website, I can click on the gear icon (which is only visible after searching for something), there is an option for Dark Mode.

Why are the biggest companies so fucking shit at basic UX? Same goes for Facebook etc. on desktop site vs app vs mobile site vs iPad…

Just guessing here, but it's probably different teams, with different priorities etc.

Search desktop decides to do dark mode, for mobile it's probably still in the works or on a roadmap somewhere.

My experience in big companies is that features are prioritized over improvements by business people.

You might be able to get something done in your team, but getting other teams to do anything is a huge struggle (not only UX, generally).

Not because they are bad or anything, just because they have a giant roadmap of all very high prio things, and no time to deal with dark mode [or whatever you need]. That's why changing branding or even basic consistency is incredibly difficult to achieve.

Anyway, just my guess, could be something totally different of course haha.

The Google app is responsive on my Android phone to the system setting for dark or light. Google.com Mobile's website is not. The desktop version is.
