How to mess with a gift card scammer?

Here's my story. I purchased AT&T services a while back and received AT&T reward cards (VISA debit cards) as gift cards in the offer. Couple of days ago, I received a call claiming themselves to be from AT&T center and told me that I am eligible for another reward card for being a good customer. They said that they need last 8 digits of current card and CVV to redeem the new card. They also help me setup the online PIN for the card as well. I was skeptical, so I looked up that phone number online - didn't find any negative review. I asked them to verify my personal information and they seemed to have all of it correct.

I believed them and stupidly ended by giving them the details. I was monitoring the card and soon enough saw the balance being drained from it. I tried calling that number but as expected, it was out of service.

I called them today from a different number and it seems they are active again. What's a good way to mess around with them? Can I find some details or go after them? I am a software engineer by profession and willing you try out something new.

I would just count this as a learning experience and move on. Who I would be interested in going after is not the scammer, but instead AT&T. The fact that the scammer knew you had just received a card, already knew your personal information (at least knew enough to convince you they were from AT&T) is very suspicious. These kind of scams operate using the inside connections.

Inform AT&Ts security department, and if they dismiss you and don't replace the card, then inform the media. AT&T should be motivated enough to setup a sting and put people in jail over this, but if they're not the media can embarrass them in to it.
