Bright minds of HN, how would you solve the HN posts disappearing issue?

Question

I was going through the "new" posts section of HN. I waded through 5-6 pages of it and saw many good posts that just get lost into the plethora of posts that are made on HN everyday. There are lot of good posts on HN that do not make it in front of lot of HN readers. If you have to solve this issue(either from HN platform perspective or from a reader's perspective, or both), then what would you do?

Offer a "user picks section" that makes the option for your updates to be public and you can follow a user and look at articles they upvoted. Then you can follow quality curators whose preferences align with yours.

They do have the "second chance" queue; which pulls some of those back out.Even tho you asked for "bright minds", this lunatic one has an idea: I might make the "new" page show 120 items instead of 30.
