Censorship Resistant YouTube?

Wondering what others here are checking out as YouTube alternatives. Is 2022 the year self-hosting makes a comeback?

I've heard good things about PeerTube[1]. You can choose to not link your instance to other PeerTube instances, or you can link with them to allow a wider variety of content.

Largely, what you're looking for depends on your definition of censorship-resistant. Do you want "any" kind of video on your platform of choice? Or is it more of a "I have a problem with what specifically YouTube censors?" I think that's an important distinction as to what platforms you would find acceptable. If it's the former, you'll probably need to self-host (as any website that's owned by another person/group could theoretically start censoring at any time). If it's the latter, you can just sign up for whatever PeerTube instance you want [2].

Censorship is really only an issue if you expect to monetize your videos. Self hosting content has always been an option if you don't need a platform that enables easy monetization. At least that is the feedback I have received from many of the youtubers that I suggested just building their own site.

Odysee[0] and LBRY[1] seem to be a good choice for anti-censorship. From what I understand, the underlying technology is LBRY, and Odysee is a company cresting a proprietary front-end and putting money back into the LBRY technology.

Even hosting a tiny bit of video slurps up bandwidth pretty quick. I'm a severe advocate of self hosting, but its just not viable for any video content, gotta farm it out.
