What do you use to stream to TV?

I don't want to get a chromecast because google so I'm thinking of something like a raspberry pi with Kodi.

I'd like to be able to stream DVDs from my Linux box but also get it to play things like youtube videos or netflix. Ideally I'd like android and iOS apps to control it as well. I'm open to suggestions.

I've been running Libreelec on a Pi for years (first Pi 3, then Pi 4) and I'm quite hapy with it. It needs some regular care and setup effort to work though...

CastagnaITs Netflix Plugin works well, but you'll lose the official Interface, if that's important to you. You might need to set up a key file (see the github repo).

The default Youtube App needs an API key but it works.

It's possible to stream Videos directly to the box from Kore on Android. Idk how this works and I'd love to know a way to do this from my Linux notebook, but I haven't had time to figure that out yet.

An alternative might be running a full Raspberry OS and e.g. stream movies from your desktop via samba or NFS.

Xbox with Kodi > loading a plex plugin... the native plex app for xbox buffers a crazy amount. Also have youtube red, hbo max all loaded on the xbox so its a one stop shop for living room entertainment.

Also have roku's and chromecasts. Roku was my preferred device for a long time but they started pushing ads so it went in a box in the closet

Android TV with built in chromecast works for everything you mentioned, except for no google.
