How does HN allow username changes?


I've noticed that someone recently admitted to breaking employment law in several European countries and after a while the poster's username, which linked to his Twitter and LinkedIn profiles, was changed to a random sequence of letters.

Are username changes common on HN? Or was it likely an one-off damage limitation/attempt to hide ass?

You can change your username, just email the admins. The only catch is that if you request a random hexadecimal name they’ll politely ask you to choose something else. :~)
