Progress in Language Models for Programming

Since release of GPT-3 there has been significant progress in using language models to synthesise code. How fast will this trend continue? How will it effect the job market for programmers? Current language models like copilot are very ineffective and can only compete with high school student tier programmers. How much longer until they can compete with average programmers? This seems concerning since it might lead to many of us becoming unemployed.
