How are you protecting your wealth?

With the current inflation, market being overvalued and rising real estate costs, how are you protecting (ie future-proofing) your wealth? HN is a forum with very interesting ideas, I'm very curious about how people here are looking at this problem.

- crypto?

- keep investing in stock/bonds/etc..?

- buying gold and burying it in the backyard?

- buying real estate in (currently) cold areas?

- ... ?

Unless you're holding a large amount of cash for many years, inflation isn't something to be worried about. Since you're posting on Hacker News, your most valuable assets are probably your skills. Those are easily the best inflation-proof assets you can get.

Personally, I bought a house (to live in) over 2 years ago, and I want to pay it all off within 10 years. This will probably be the 3rd year I've maxed out my 401k.

Gold isn't a particularly good investment. Stocks tend to beat its returns, and it's useless in an apocalypse. Crypto doesn't have a long enough track record for me to be comfortable with it, and real estate (outside of my house) comes off as too complicated.

Just riding it out on low fee index funds. I am young enough to wait it out though…
