Can you tell if a post is edited?

I always wonder if there is a way on HN to tell is a post has been modified. I notice people mentioning "Edit: ..." when they edit their post, do they just do that out of the goodness of their heart even though there is no indication that the post has been edited?

I edit my posts regularly. It might be a bad habit, but I tap posts out quickly on a tablet and often it seems the spell checker is possessed by the devil. So I regularly fix gaffes, clarify the writing, etc. This morning I had a link to a 24 hour satellite loop and changed it to 240.By the time anybody calls me out on a mistake (say I said "Markov Chain Monte Carlo" when I really meant "Monte Carlo Tree Search") the edit window is usually closed and I have to reply in another message.
