Best advice for Director of Operations at a software development agency?

I recently became a manager for a custom software development agency. I have the opportunity to lead our operations initiatives and become the director of operations. We have a lot that we need to improve upon operationally.

I have a lot of ideas and thoughts about how we can improve our software development process, project management, and project scheduling, but I would be curious to hear from other people with experience operating a software development agency.

What is your best advice for a Director of Operations at a software development agency? Are there any good articles/books about operating a software development agency that would be worth reading?
