Is there a system for repeatably productive work days?

Been working in this industry as a software engineer for nearly a decade and I'm starting to work towards a tech lead position.

It occurred to me that I don't have a repeatable process for each day to be somewhere within a standard deviation of my "average" productivity. Which is kind of weird for an industry that puts so much stock in repeatable processes.

Supposedly I do a decent job on my technical work and I'm o.k. at communication and presentation. However, I don't always do all of the small things that add up: I don't always document as I go (sometimes I put it off), I don't always take notes for meetings, etc.

It seems like there ought to be some kind of system for getting the little stuff done and the "meat" of the work done. The advice for writers to "write something every day, even if its crap" comes to mind, but for devs :)

I want to be productive, organized, and dependable like the senior engineers I hope to become, and have fewer days where I feel like I let something basic slip: in other words, a professional.

get rid of your biological form and become a robot. you'll be productive 100% of the days.

or, maybe just get enough rest every day, treat yourself well, don't work so hard.

y'know. both ways could work.
