Is HN Down?

Performance was severely degraded for a couple hours. We tried a bunch of things, none of which worked, and then I suddenly remembered that I had pushed a trivial code change just before things went to shit. Reverting it made the problem go away. Doh! I still don't understand why.

Edit: it was not for naught, though, because some of the tweaks that the incredible mthurman came up with seem to have made things a bit snappier than they were before.

Just pulled 'new' and sorted the ages of new posts:

I'm guessing something happened at around t-49m (UTC 19:00-ish).

It seems to be more stable if you're logged out.

Maybe HN suffered from the HN kiss of death.

i have server maintainence messages in the banner very plausible explanation, so be patient until the corrections and administration is done.

Seems to be improving right now.

I'm also seeing this error
