Contract programmers, how did you get started?


Contracting sounds great. High pay, work from home. Effectively become your own boss. All the up sides come with the risk of not finding any work for a while.

Finding your first contract appears to be the scary one. Quitting a stable income to go out and look for an unstable income. How did you do it?

A friend of mine was contracting for another company and needed extra skills to make a package deal for his client. I filled that spot, he got the contract and I was subcontracted for some of the deliverables.
