Decentralized systems allow privacy preserving verification of credentials. Coupled with continued changes in law to both protect privacy and increase efficiency of government interactions this will eventually lead to a world without paper forms. No more time spent waiting in line at the DMV, the Registrar's office, etc.
The technology is part of it, but it's really more of a mindset change. Through enforcing organizations not having your private information, it can actually to a lot more transparency and efficiency in operations.
