The pure lab test processing time is as far as I understand dependent on the specific test system and machinery used, with 1-2 hours being typical, but options that work faster being available for at least some scenarios.
Since tests are run in labs and in (often large) batches, the actual time it takes from sample being taken to test result known is longer.
