How to deal with gaps in CV from mental health problems?
My CV has gaps, and I know this is a red flag.
But I don't want to disclose mental health problems, which could also be a red flag.
I did one time, and the recruiter sent me an email linking to a suicide prevention website.
Say that you had health problems. That's accurate, it doesn't paint you in bad light and many people wouldn't inquire further out of politeness.
One red flag imo is not necessarily gaps, but also length at jobs. If I try to hire you but only see you've been max 6mo-1y at each job, I'm afraid you'll leave soon.
I don't know your precise situation, but if that's the case you should prob prepare an answer for that too. Health issue (as recommended elsewhere) seems perfectly fine.
I believe in some jurisdictions you're obliged to provide this kind of information - especially mental issues that could put others at risk. You'll have to be more specific about what country you live in.
A lot of larger companies also make you pass a psychological test of some sort. That may or may not uncover something, but I somehow doubt it unless it's something severe.
Generally would avoid putting that in if you're in the clear legally.
Say you were pursuing independent projects or traveling.
How sad that there is still such a stigma attached to mental health issues! People get sick all the time, break their legs, have cancer, covid, etc, and that's ok because it's physical, but mental sickness you should hide?
