Why aren't tech apprenticeships more popular?

The modern model of work expects some type of certificate, degree, work experience or self-motivated portfolio of work to get a job in tech as an engineer or product developer.

While this is totally fine, I think there are many individuals/companies, who can benefit from guided development via a sponsored apprenticeship.

Not only is it useful for the individual but the business now has a moldable mind they can develop for future use.

Apologies if anything isn't clear or if I speak from ignorance but I think this model of skill development versus college, certificate programs, and other forms is much better for both company and individual.

As the title says, why aren't tech apprenticeships more popular?

Probably because it's not worth the time/money training someone when everybody switches jobs every 2-4 years. By the time they're as productive as a fulltimer, it'll be time to switch jobs
