Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Amok in BigTech
In a FANG/BigTech company and over the last few years DEI culture has grown in an unhealthy manner. Critiquing it is verboten, and for managers is a career-limiting move. Leaders constantly push it, which leads to hours of cringeworthy events examining privilege and race. I'm not even white and I feel bad for all the white people around me who have to take this without speaking up. Ideally race would grow less important over time, but it's the opposite. And apparently saying that one is "colorblind" is "problematic" now. Not to mention the pervasive casual contempt thrown around for conservative ideas and people, when doing the opposite would get you hauled in front of HR. There is a glaring contradiction here in BigTech saying it wants creative, free-thinking people and then creating this stifling environment on the inside. Wondering if others had similar experiences, or felt that this whole DEI thing was still net positive?
