What does software development in Australia look like?

What does the ecosystem look like there?

Is there innovation, room for growth, companies that are actively hiring and generally speaking a vibrant and prosperous future for a software developer?

I am talking specifically for Sydney but you can expand on other cities as well if you would like.

Small, but some growing/large tech companies. Canva, and SafetyCulture are probably the highest growth, Atlassian is already public and doing very well. Google has a Sydney office, Uber has some engineers scattered around.

Hopefully the government realizes they need to incentive tech workers with company share tax schemes, and startup tax cuts.

I know a few roles going in some of these companies; Python, Java, JS, Infra. Reply with an email address and I'll send through some contacts.

Reminds me of a silly story from work (in the US). A support person was asking a dev about something that was wrong for an Australian customer’s DNS entries. The dev said they were incorrect because they need to be upside down in Australia. The support person got back to their desk before the lightbulb came on and came back feeling rather silly for accepting that answer haha. The dev did help them get things fixed up.

So:

Upside down :)

I think like everywhere. I mean there are and good big companies and small startups. It depends on purpose of your interest. But you always can initiate contacts with foreign outsourcing development companies which also provides remote jobs, like https://joinsoft.com/services/custom-software-development/

The same as anywhere else really, but with a hard-hat to protect from drop-bears
