What's your remote (as in cloud) dev setup?

I've been exploring how to use my beautiful and light LG Gram 17 as a dev machine. But it's really weak for compiling, so I was looking for a way to use it for the GUI while the heavy stuff happens on a remote server.

Seems like there's a lot of different approaches, what's yours?
