What is the Namecheap “Withheld for Privacy” announcement about?


Namecheap customers got an email that Namecheap is changing the service called "WhoisGuard" to "Withheld for Privacy" in Iceland.

The whole thing sounds strange to me. What are those services offering?

It looks like this service wasn't provided by Namecheap.

Though you were paying Namecheap, it was provided by WhoisGuard (http://www.whoisguard.com/). Now it's being provided by "Withheld By Privacy". A quick search doesn't turn anything up on this company/provider, though. Maybe it's a new company, or maybe it's a subsidiary of Namecheap.
