Where did “cheers” come from (on web forums/email/etc.)?


I mostly see this among older, technical internet-users. I think it's charming and I've started saying it myself in certain contexts. Just curious how it became popular in internet circles, since it isn't a super common expression otherwise (at least in the United States).

It's a common British expression for thank you and goodbye. Also often used in Canada. I supposed it's bled into polite conversation online.
