How do you store your TV/Movie collection?

Question

As I've gotten older, I've moved away from physical copies (VHS, DVDs) to local files (usually pirated, played via VLC), to eventually streaming and iTunes-style cloud purchases, for the convenience, legality, and media quality.I'm thinking of splitting the difference however and looking for Blu Rays with digital download codes, as I miss both the immediacy of physical media and not having a software gatekeeper.What's your setup?

My setup:- Server in France (kimsufi). Why? They have a 3-strikes sort-of behavior when it comes to pirating. If a lawyer is contacting them and find a torrent on your server, they send you an email with: "Make sure nobody hacked into your system and change your passwords"- I installed transmission cli on the server- domain to use https and a different port to access a web interface to add torrent links- Add WebDav over HTTPs on the server to access my movies- I use Infuse Pro on my AppleTV and add the WebDav folder to itNow I can download movies from my phone on the way home from work, come home and open the Apple TV and stream it directly from my server, without having to download it.

Once I owned around 3000 movies and 300 discs (music). I digitalized my collection in 2015 and in 2017 made it available via streaming (Plex). I sold the physical copies and got rid of the digital ones (with the exception of 5 movies) last year. I couldn&rsquo;t be happier. It was a burden to be honest and I never managed to watch more than a couple of times 5% of my collection. I see it as an investment of time and peace of mind for my future self.

Still use my DVD player since I have a nice collection but not growing it any longer. Owning movies is just not important to me nowadays. I rent via streaming 1-2x a month.

Everything that I have digitally is stored in a Synology NAS and accessed via Plex. Best setup I ever had and works already for years
